As the Director of Engineering at Jito Labs, you will be instrumental in shaping our technical future and operational excellence. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Build World-Class Engineering Operations (80% Focus)

• Set Engineering Standards: Define and implement robust standards for code quality, comprehensive documentation, testing coverage, and architectural review processes.
• Create Clarity and Alignment: Establish sprint planning, roadmap development, and priority-setting frameworks to ensure the team operates with clear direction and purpose.
• Own the Release Process: Design and oversee robust deployment procedures, incorporating rigorous testing, advanced monitoring, and effective incident response protocols.
• Enable Leadership Focus: Take decisive ownership of day-to-day technical decision-making and engineering operations, empowering company leadership to concentrate on strategic initiatives.

Lead and Scale the Team (20% Focus)

• Mentor Engineers: Actively mentor and guide engineers, fostering their professional growth, enhancing their skills, and maximizing their impact within the organization.
• Build Team Culture: Cultivate a high-performance culture through engaging team rituals, collaborative practices, and a supportive environment.
• Foster Collaboration: Drive seamless interaction and synergy between product, operations, and engineering teams.
• Strategic Recruitment: Plan and execute recruitment and hiring initiatives as the team expands beyond its current size.

• Proven Operator: Demonstrated success in building and scaling engineering teams of 10-50+ individuals within high-growth startups or critical infrastructure companies.
• First Principles Thinker: Ability to adapt and innovate best practices from previous roles, applying them strategically rather than replicating them verbatim.
• Process Builder: Extensive experience in developing software development processes from inception, including CI/CD pipelines, robust testing frameworks, efficient deployment procedures, on-call rotations, and comprehensive metrics tracking.
• Technical Credibility: A strong technical background enabling effective code reviews, debugging of production issues, and earning the respect of top-tier engineers.
• Startup Velocity: A proactive mindset with the ability to move rapidly, prioritize ruthlessly, and possess a hands-on approach when needed.
• Low Ego: A commitment to problem-solving and achieving collective success, prioritizing impact over individual recognition.
• Desirable Experience: Background in Rust, distributed systems, high-performance infrastructure, or deep experience with crypto/blockchain infrastructure.
• High-Stakes Environment: Proven ability to operate effectively in environments where downtime carries significant financial implications.
